It has the makings of a real-life battle to the death – the Jeep Compass vs Patriot. King Fiat Chrysler’s two noble servants, Compass and Patriot, were failing. The King knew that for his kingdom to be competitive in the battle for compact SUV dominance, only one could go forward. A struggle ensued, and the Compass came out victorious.
That may have been a little over-dramatic, but maybe not. I’m sure there was much discussion surrounding the two compact sport utility vehicles before Chrysler decided to kill the Patriot. I always thought the Patriot was a little confused. With its boxy appearance, was it supposed to be similar to the rugged Jeep Wrangler? Or was it supposed to be a comfortable pavement pounder?
To me, the Compass appears to understand its identity better. Sure, it wears the Jeep name, but it doesn’t look like a wanna-be rock climber. I drove a Compass for a week as a rental vehicle and really enjoyed it. My kids still talk about how much they liked the Compass. History of the Jeep Patriot

The second-generation Compass is a good SUV. It has everything going for it this time around. If I was in the market, would I buy it? For the right price, yes, I would. Price is the key.
